Today is move-in day for all of the new students on campus! Returning students will be here soon and fall classes start on Monday.

Our club Librarian, Sarah McCarty, has selected a short but fantastic book for our September reading so that we can all juggle leisure reading with the start of school. The book is The Great Divorce, by C.S. Lewis.

If you need help getting a copy of the book, email Sarah and she will assist you. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Pizza Party!

Join us for Script Frenzy! Win Fabulous Prizes!

Screnzy is a free worldwide creative adventure. During the 30 days in April, people everywhere try to write 100 page scripts and graphic novels.

The WP Writing & Lit. Club invites to you learn more during our Script Frenzy Survival Guide this Saturday, March 12th at 2pm in the Smith Hall Conference Room.

Learn how to write in these various formats, enjoy some delicious Greek food (our nod to the founders of drama), and play the Plot Machine.

January Reading

Hey everybody, the book that we are reading for the month of January is Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. Instead of reading the whole book, we are only going to be reading a few of the tales. We will read the General Prologue, the Wife of Bath’s tale, the Miller’s tale, and the Pardoner’s tale.

The discussion date for the book is Friday, February 4, which is in two weeks. The book is available on Project Gutenberg here.

Writing Workshop = Lemon Cupcakes

No, really. They do. If you come to our writing workshop this afternoon from 2-4pm in Lower B, it will equal a lemon cupcake. We promise!

So, what is a writing workshop? It’s a place where people who love to write and people who hate to write can come together and help each other out.

If you struggle with academic writing, one of our English nerds will gladly help you revise your draft or simply get started.

If you’ve been working on a piece of creative writing and you don’t know where to go next, others in the group can help you brainstorm plot ideas, or even clean up your writing for publication.

Our writing workshops are also a safe place for you to showcase your writing before an audience that understands how terrifying that can be—we know, because we’re putting our stuff out there too.

We also like to have a little fun at our workshops, so we might even pull out some wacky writing prompts or write an impromptu round robin story. Don’t worry—no creative writing skills are required.

It’s a brand new year and a brand new semester, and we hope it’s going to be a good one!

Whether you’re new to the Writing & Lit. club or you were a member last year, you’re invited to join us for our welcome back party and book discussion this Friday from 2-4pm in the Lower B Conference Room in Smith Hall.

This is an opportunity to unwind after the first week of classes, catch up with friends or make some new ones, as well as learn what we will be doing this semester and talk about books.

Our December reading list included two books: The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde (which is actually a play). Don’t stray away if you haven’t read them! You can view the lecture or the movie if you like, or you can just show up and vote for our January and February reading instead.

We can’t wait to see you there!

This is just a quick reminder to check out a copy of Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture and drop by Project Gutenberg to read The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde before January 14th. The Final Countdown

Hello Fellow Wrimos! If you have looked at your calendar at all today, you will realize that it is indeed November 30th. It snuck up fast. You may have finished (congrats Chelsea “The Yerb”) or you may be really close to finishing (Here’s to you Jess “theflockforever”).

Some of you may have finished your word goal, some of you have exceeded it. But if you are like me, you have writers block the size of Russia and dont know where to go from here. Well, get out of your funk, and write. It doesnt matter how much or if it even makes sense, just write.

Remember, if you get at least 50,000 words, you have until June to turn in your voucher, therefore, start pasting your term papers into your story so you can reach it. (I may or may not be doing this myself).

Anyway, there is the Last Ditch Write-A-Thon tonight in the Lower B lounge in Smith Hall. I hope to see you there, and I hope you will finish.
